Different Styles of Tiaras

Tiaras are known as the Princess of Headpieces and are a great way to accent any gown. Tiaras (with or without a veil), should draw attention to your face, not away from it. Tiaras are usually accented with pearls, rhinestones, crystals, etc., and come in various shapes and sizes such as: browband, headband, crown, bun wraps, etc. Choose a tiara according to your face shape and keep in mind your hairstyle for your wedding day. Tiaras are a good compliment for upswept and shorter hairstyles. Bridal tiaras and combs are the most popular hair accessories worn by celebrity brides.

Front-sitting tiaras are designed to sit horizontally on the front of your head, directly behind the hairline. Crowns and coronet style tiaras are perfect for fairytale-themed weddings and can be worn high on the head as a full-crown style or around a high hairstyle or loose bun as a half-crown style. Alice bands are a versatile option for brides and bridesmaids alike. They are good to wear with most hairstyles, from a sweeping up-do to long flowing locks. Side tiaras have become more popular. These can take the form of a flurry of feathers, or a side spray of crystals for a pretty yet different bridal look. These styles look fantastic with hair that is worn down, and are a great option for brides with short hairstyles. Bun-wrap tiaras should be a close fit to the hairstyle they encircle, whether its a high up-do or a bun. These tiaras can be made a little taller than usual. For a low bun, a full-circle style is often used. A half-circle piece is good for use with a higher hairstyle. Most traditional front-sitting tiaras can be adapted to wear as a bun-wrap style.

For a round face, tiaras with some height or a peak will make your face appear longer. For a long face, tiaras with little or no height will not make your face appear longer. A headband that extends over your head completely with an even height will achieve the same effect. For an oval face, avoid tiaras with a peak at the top because they will make your face appear longer. For a full face, tiaras that peak into a V in the middle will create the illusion of a longer face.

Remember to choose your gown before choosing a tiara! Try to match the sparkle of your gown with your tiara. If your gown has crystals on it, choose a tiara with crystals; or pearls with pearls, etc. If your gown has floral details on it, look for similar tiaras with floral detailing. A gown with embroidery on it looks great with a floral-detailed tiara. Pearl tiaras look great with off-white or ivory gowns. Rhinestone and silver-tone tiaras are a great choice for a white gown. Rhinestones are the most popular choice for tiaras and they come in a variety of colors: silver, pink, blue, red, etc. A stylish gown should have a modern tiara and an antique gown should have an antique style tiara. Tiaras with Austrian crystals only on them will go great with any gown.

Platinum Blonde and dark shades of hair look great with white, silver or crystal accented tiaras. Red and lighter brown shades of hair look great with ivory pearls and gold-tones. Brides with short hair should choose a lighter, delicate tiara that wont require lots of pinning to keep it in place. Headband styles and small tiaras work best for shorter hair. Remember to hide the ends of the tiara behind the hair. Keep in mind to match your earrings and necklace with the tiara. Make sure that the tiara doesnt overwhelm your gown or jewelry you want it to add a touch of elegance, just like a princess!

Bridesmaids look great in tiaras as well, by wearing a simpler version of the brides tiara. It really coordinates the look of the wedding party.

At the reception, the veil should be removed because it will get pulled off anyway, because of everyone hugging and kissing you; however, tiaras can still be worn and helps to make you stand out in the photos where you are surrounded by family and friends.
